I was way down the rabbit hole last night watching videos on game engines that render curved spaces (non-Euclidean spaces). Aside from confirmation that there are outstanding educators on YouTube, it reminded me how challenging it is to see bigger pictures or trends beyond one's point of view. Understanding how others perceive the world or even thinking in extended timelines is hard. The irony is that inflexible worldviews create more disruption than figuring out how to navigate the curved and complex spaces of protests and pandemics.
For those that want to join me in a non-Euclidean mental space:

FT data - the second graph down now has state-level data - I suggest setting it to cases, per million, linear, and add your state to the highlighted list.

There was a bevy of articles on unique, 30-second point of care breath-based tests for COVID. As always, watch for real-world sensitivity and specificity numbers. I think this is all hopeful - with so much time and resources; it is only a matter of when we will develop rapid, accurate testing on demand.
South Africa -This test uses chemical patterns to detect a "coronavirus signature."

Israel - This test uses spectrographic resonance to detect coronavirus:

or (same test, different article) https://hamodia.com/2020/06/30/israeli-company-introduces-coronavirus-test-results-30-seconds/
The US - Becton Dickinson now offers COVID-19 point-of-care antigen testing on their widely adopted Veritor testing platform.

A concerning article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday described the undermining of scientific data integrity by Chinese science researchers. The WSJ article is behind a paywall. However, I found an older (and updated) article about what is happening. https://forbetterscience.com/2020/01/24/the-full-service-paper-mill-and-its-chinese-customers/
The take-home is that data coming from places that routinely do not adhere to scientific standards of intellectual integrity makes it hard to believe, interpret, and operationalize a response.
A CNN article on the antibodies in sampled populations in Spain lead to a number of discussions on herd immunity. This twitter thread sums up the range of opinions: https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1280123151687520258
There is a lot of debate on the role of antibody vs. T-cell mediated protection from this virus. I did not walk away from this Twitter discussion with a lot of confidence that we know enough to change our behavior.
And similar to the herd immunity data, STAT news offers an article on the disorganization around COVID treatment studies.

Some analysis that the coming weeks will see a rise in death due to COVID also was discussed yesterday. Appreciating the extended timeline of coronavirus infection is hard and not well understood by many who make policy.

Remember - median time to symptoms is about nine days, and the median time to death is 21 days (from the day of hospital admission).

Irregardless of the scientific chaos, I found the most concerning news of the day on July 6: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/jul/06/is-irregardless-a-real-word-dictionary
Regardless of this article, I will not be using irregardless. This is a hill worth dying on, for sure.
Infographic of the day- This feels like the right combination of outdoors and altered perspective for today. However, I suspect I would want to be further than one grizzly bear away from a grizzly bear. https://i.redd.it/bvi17bo1h8951.jpg
Bonus Round - Altered perspectives
Last year I listened to the Michael Pollan book How to Change Your Mind, which makes a case to normalize and mainstream the use of psychedelics. It is an excellent read. But it reminds me of the history of Timothy Leary, who went from Harvard psychologist doing psilocybin experiments to pop-culture icon of the 1960s and 70s. If you have not read about the good and bad of his life and influence, it is a good education about the cold war, counter-culture, and the trade-offs of attempting to alter world views.

Philip Roth is an author with whom I would like to have had lunch. His portrayal of America in the late 20th century through American Pastoral, I Married a Communist, and The Human Stain is an outstanding trilogy of seeing the world through the eyes of others. In particular, the Human Stain feels particularly relevant today. It is a movie from 2003 as well.
