Since our house has been on the market, we have had a few offers, one failed contract, and, now, another (hopefully successful) contract. The range of questions and concerns expressed by potential buyers is remarkable. My house has been poked, prodded, and examined in ways that make me blush. Objective and verifiable data (like our air handler's location or the claims history from our flood insurance) have undergone forensic-level scrutiny. I see the fine line between thorough and suspicious. Moreover, it is incredible how wide-ranging the perspective is on a physical object, such as my house (it is overpriced; it is beautiful; it is outdated; it is too big; it is too small). This house selling experience offers insight as to why more ephemeral or unobservable phenomena are only that much more derisive.
-----Latest Data---
Cases rates are rising in much of the world. The U.S. is now above a 7-day rolling average of 40,000 cases. Death rates are still falling for now.

Dr. Fauci's composure, professionalism, and ability to diplomatically point out a logical fallacy are worthy of emulation. I cannot imagine being in his shoes. I will be using the phrase, "You are alone in that belief," moving forward.

At the last minute this morning, I found this NEJM editorial on how health care professionals must work with patients with a wide range of beliefs, even science-deniers. I frequently find myself in the position of simultaneously trying to educate, empathize, and shame my patients into working toward fact-driven goals. This essay is a beautifully articulated description of that struggle.

Technology Review offered this article and discussion on live attenuated virus vaccines. Irrespective of whether this is a good idea for coronavirus, the trade-offs of live attenuated vaccines are well described.

While I would caution putting too much credence in the conclusions around herd immunity, this piece on historical coronavirus outbreaks offers some new and interesting information.

I'll be out on Monday for the Jewish Holiday. Back on Tuesday.
