More vaccine news is undoubtedly uplifting and a respite from the tone of recent events. Keeping focused on protecting yourself and others will be the struggle while we wait for what's next. But the more immediate challenge of gracefully and non-judgmentally bowing out of holiday parties seems to be a thing now. It is awkward. And no amount of tact can help me avoid the feeling like I am picking myself last in gym class. This season will be Zoom parties and the hope for densely packed family gatherings for Thanksgiving '21.

Technology Review offers a quick run-down on doing the math of potential exposure at your holiday party. Controllable factors like masks, number of people, and distance are critical. But, so is the local disease prevalence.

The CDC has updated a list of FAQs about COVID vaccination. This is the kind of thing you can share with your crazy uncle or use for your own edification (if you are the crazy uncle).

----Bonus Round - 50 States of Wonder
Atlas Obscura checked many boxes for me with this round-up of their multi-month project on interesting places in each US State. I wonder what they did with submissions from US territories like Puerto Rico and Guam? Either way, you could spend hours of screen time wandering through the curiosities, ephemera, and history described.

I highly recommend "6 Spots Where the World Comes to Deleware, " including the Dressed John Milton statue. Apparently, in Deleware, a mysterious person or persons dresses a life-sized statue of the English poet John Milton (of Paradise Lost fame) in seasonally appropriate clothing. Per the article, this is one of 6 reasons to go to Deleware. Fortunately for me, I can drive. My Coloradan and UK friends will have to wait.

And, while you're at it, it is an excellent time to brush up on your demonyms.

My libertarian friends will be happy to know someone in the Government Printing Office has taken time to publish the official list of recommended demonyms in section 5.23 in the GPO manual of style (which feels like an oxymoron, but you have to call it something).
