While I would not want to test my knowledge against Steven Colbert, I am a Lord of the Rings fan. The last few days have given me intense empathy for Smeagol. Incessantly doom-scrolling social media, at times to the exclusion of meals and self-care, must be like having the ring. I am not yet living in a cave with my phone, talking to myself, and eating live fish, but this outcome feels in the realm of possibility. Distractions include unpacking boxes and a pandemic‽ And, to be sure, these are only so much of a distraction when CNN is in the background.

On Friday, STAT News offered this article on the Pfizer vaccine's efficacy against the latest mutations of SARS-2-CoV.

Dr. Gandhi, a UCSF infectious disease doc, offers insights into the very high likelihood that the vaccines prevent transmission. To be clear, however, there is ONLY data for the AZ vaccine.

One unexpected side effect of having received my first dose of vaccine is I am now the designated "person for potential exposure" within my family. My wife reminded me that a single dose of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine might be 80 to 90% effective 14 days after a single dose. She sent me this article before sending me to pick up food (on day 12 post my injection) at a new (and crowded) restaurant near our house. To be clear - the duration of a response to a single vaccine dose is not fully known.

----Bonus Round --- Ye Olde Nephrologists
This weekend I learned the word "uromancy." Remarkably, I was not acquainted with this word. But, my nephrology fellowship did not teach divining the future through urinalysis. And though I am not sure these practitioners were giving out stock tips, it would be a handy skill. I mean, what more do you want to know from urine than, "Buy Tesla," right‽
