This year's May 4th brings more weighty considerations than whether I am too old to enjoy Star Wars. Due to my older son's AP test this week, we face the family dilemma of whether we start the latest Disney+ Star Wars series without him. Is the greater good to watch tonight's release and again with him (post-AP test)? Wouldn't a utilitarian argue it is better for one person, rather than three people, to avoid spoilers? Do I even have a fundamental philosophy toward Netflix cheating? My parents did not prepare me for a world with streaming media, mid-week release dates, and binge-watching.

Vaccinating 12-15 years olds is a significant step forward. Vaccinating the under 12 is probably a few months off still.

I did not appreciate how much lower the dose of various pathogens (smallpox, influenza, and coronavirus) needs to be to infect when spread via aerosol (instead of droplets). Here is a fascinating thread on this topic that compiles several data points and articles.https://twitter.com/jljcolorado/status/1387554983890067459
The WSJ published a piece on the next generation COVID vaccines - some of which are pills and nasal sprays. Exciting, but very early in the development cycle. The article is behind a paywall but appears free on Apple News (for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users)

A fantastic coffee read from the Guardian on the ongoing debate about free will versus determinism. And how philosophers who write about such topics are now receiving death threats. I dislike the notion that free will does not exist, but it may help with the aforementioned "Netflix cheating" issue. Either way, this is a refreshingly academic variance from what U.S. newspapers publish.

And speaking of determinism, I found this fantastic story about some real-world events that MAY have inspired JRR Tolkien's One Ring.

And, if you are shopping in the spiritual marketplace or are considering a move to polytheism, it may be an excellent time to learn about the Celtic god Nodens - associated with healing, the sea, hunting, and dogs. A solid portfolio, to be sure.
